About Music for York House
This is a home for two things. The first is a set of vinyl-replay systems for York House — sixty of them, from modest to ambitious, one for each pairing of budget tier and listening brief. The second is the record collection itself: every album with its pressing details, its scores, and a link to hear it.
How the recommendations are made
Each system shown here is the certified answer to its brief. Rather than building a system up one plausible choice at a time, every combination the component catalogue allows is weighed against the brief as a whole, within its budget, and the single best is kept — checked twice over by independent methods before it reaches a page. The spending inside each build follows the brief's own values: a timing-led brief puts more of its budget into the record deck, a warmth-led one into the loudspeakers, and each page shows that shape in plain percentages.
Subwoofers are decided by arithmetic rather than habit: each loudspeaker's own published reach is compared with how much of recorded music's deepest range it leaves uncovered, and a subwoofer is fitted only where that remainder is genuinely worth a cabinet. All of this happens before you arrive — nothing is worked out while you browse, which is why everything here loads quickly and reads the same every time.

For 33 of the systems, the loudspeaker that suits the brief best is a bespoke commission you cannot simply buy. Those pages also show what to reach for instead — a strong off-the-shelf option, not a precise runner-up, so treat it as a good starting point rather than an exact substitute.
