Monoblocks

Relative price

above typical

Among the 25 monoblockss in the catalogue, this one is above typical.

A band places a component against its peers and carries no price. It is deliberately the only price indicator on this page: a second one, measured against a different set, would narrow the two together far enough to give the figure away.

What it is

NEW ENTRY (2026-05-12) per Tier 1 currency audit. Audio Note (UK) P4 Balanced Tonmeister — Level 3 parallel-300B mono power amplifier pair with hand-wound balanced input transformers and interstage transformer coupling. The "Tonmeister" designation indicates the no-capacitor-coupling design philosophy (Audio Note official: "this clever but difficult to execute design philosophy allows the number of deleterious parts in the signal path to be reduced, simplifying the circuit and dramatically lowering colouration and improving transparency"). Hand-built Hove, East Sussex.

POSITION IN AN UK MONO RANGE: Above Conqueror stereo (8W single 300B SE), Quest mono (8W single 300B SE pair), Conquest mono (18W parallel 300B PSE pair); below Empress mono (parallel 2A3), Shinri/Neiro/Kassai mono pairs, Ginrei mono pair (Level 4, 45W parallel 211). The P4 Balanced Tonmeister is positioned as the FULLY-CONTAINED most powerful AN UK Level 3 monoblock — i.e. the most power without exposed valves (per Deco Audio framing).

INPUT COMPATIBILITY: 2.4kΩ balanced input impedance is LOWER than typical (most active preamps drive 10-50kΩ loads). The relatively low input Z is due to the AN UK input transformer step ratio. Reliable partners: Naim NAC 332 (true balanced output, 50Ω output Z), Naim NSC 222 (XLR output, single-ended but adequate drive), Audio Note M3 Phono/Line Balanced (XLR via output transformer), Audio Note higher M-series. Passive preamps with simple resistor attenuators may struggle to drive 2.4kΩ — verify drive capability before pairing.

ELECTRICAL FIT: 18W parallel-SE output mandates ≥90dB sensitivity speakers. Excellent partners: AN-E SPe HE (98dB), AN-J (94dB), Klipsch Heritage. POOR partners: LS3/5a derivatives (83-84dB) — P4 BT cannot reach typical listening SPL with them. In cavity-constrained context: NO cavity-eligible speaker meets the 90dB+ requirement (highest is Neat Petite Classic 87dB). The architectural Audio-Note-system tension applies fully to P4 BT.
