Exposure XM9 (pair)

Monoblocks

Relative price

below typical

Among the 25 monoblockss in the catalogue, this one is below typical.

A band places a component against its peers and carries no price. It is deliberately the only price indicator on this page: a second one, measured against a different set, would narrow the two together far enough to give the figure away.

What it is

CHASSIS: 218×89×363mm — half-width. Two side-by-side fit within a single 550mm shelf width (combined 436mm + spacing). UNIQUELY cavity-friendly among catalog monoblocks: ONLY existing entries to fit cavity are Cyrus MonoX (215×73×360 — also half-width), Quad 303 Bridged (258×110×240), and EAR-509 (300×165×230). XM9 makes 4 cavity-compatible monoblock options.

TOPOLOGY: Class AB, DC-coupled, single-ended internally but accepts balanced XLR via input jumper. Cascode input/PSU stages for low noise. 200VA custom toroidal transformer (rare in a chassis this compact — most rivals at this size go switch-mode). Toshiba bipolar outputs. ARCHITECTURE NOTE: per Exposure designer, the XM9 "uses the components the XM5 integrated uses for both channels, here concentrated into one channel" — i.e. monoblock = half of XM5 doubled-up. Heritage trace.

POWER: 80W/8Ω conservatively rated; Stereo Magazine lab measured >180W/4Ω peak. Drives B&W 800D3 (review) and DALI Epicon 6 without difficulty. Suitable for 84-92dB-sensitivity speakers in mid-sized rooms; pair would handle Harbeth, Spendor Classic, Falcon, Wharfedale Diamond, PMC Prodigy, ProAc Tablette in this catalog. NOT ideal for difficult electrostatic loads or very inefficient speakers (<83dB).

I/O: accepts both RCA and XLR (jumper-selectable, requires case-open). Bi-wire speaker terminals. NOT factory-bridgeable.
